Darkness into Light Preparation
Darkness into Light will be held on Saturday the 11th of May 2019. What started back in 2009 in the Phoenix Park in aid of Pieta House has now become a global event as participants literally move from the darkness of the night into the brightness and light of the morning. You can either run or walk in the event and either way, you can prepare for it at Westpark Fitness.
Our gym is stocked with a range of industry-leading cardiovascular equipment including the likes of exercise bikes, treadmills, Step Master machines and more. Using these can help you to build up your stamina and keep your muscles and joints loose and limber before the event. Regardless of Darkness into Light, many gym goers make use of this equipment as a warmup and / or cool down for their workouts. Cardio exercise like this is known to help with heart and lung health and can also help you to burn calories as you expend energy. If you would like any advice and guidance on getting the best out of our cardio equipment to reach your goals and help with your preparation for Darkness into Light – please ask any of our friendly fitness team who will be more than happy to help!
Nutrition is also of key importance to help reach and maintain your health and fitness goals. With a walking / running event like this one (which starts during the night and is therefore highly likely to be outside of your eating routine); it makes sense to have eaten the proper foods in advance to act as the proper fuel. Broadly speaking, consuming carbohydrates in advance can build up your energy stores, having protein can keep you feeling fuller for longer (while also maintaining cell and muscle health) and being properly hydrated (preferably by water) will also make a positive difference. As our friendly fitness team are also knowledgeable and experienced with how to optimise your nutritional intake, please feel free to talk with them about the best way to prepare for the event in terms of optimising your food!
