Did you know that you can make a vegetarian form of chicken wings known as cauliflower buffalo wings? Like the name suggests, they are made from cauliflower florets which make for a surprisingly similar result to traditional chicken wings. This recipe is also baked as opposed to fried, making it a healthy treat to enjoy as either a snack, lunch or dinner option.
Cauliflower Buffalo Wings
Recipe Ingredients List
- Cauliflower (one head)
- Low-Fat Milk (250ml)
- Flour (120g)
- Paprika Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
Wash the cauliflower head and then cut it up into smaller chunks (known as florets). Preheat your oven to 220° (or 200° for fan ovens).
In a deep bowl, mix together the milk, flour (you can choose gluten-free flour here if required) paprika, garlic and onion powders to make the batter. Dip each of the cauliflowers into this batter and make sure they are evenly coated. Let any excess batter drip back into the bowl before placing each floret on a baking try lined with greaseproof paper.
Add these to the oven and monitor them so that they bake to a golden brown colour and don’t become burned. They should take around twenty minutes in total to bake, so you should remove them from the oven and flip them over after ten minutes so that they cook evenly.
As tasty as they are, the cauliflower buffalo wings can be served and enjoyed by themselves! You may also wish to serve them with a sauce of your choosing to dip them into; or even with a side salad or some carrot sticks to add a hit of healthy nutrients to your meal too!
