Low Fat Chocolate Mousse - Recipe of the Week

Who said that a sweet chocolaty treat can’t be low in fat too? This low fat chocolate mousse recipe achieves just that – making for a light and luscious dessert or snack option that won’t sabotage your health and fitness goals. As it is homemade too, you know exactly what you are putting into your body. It also gives you a simple recipe to follow whenever you are craving something sweet!

Recipe Ingredients List

  • Fat Free Greek Yoghurt (120g)
  • Dark Chocolate Chips (75g)
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (60g)
  • Egg Whites (60g)
  • Sugar (50g)
  • Vanilla Extract (half a teaspoon)

Step 1
Microwave the chocolate chips in a bowl for fifteen second intervals. You want to stir them at each interval and heat them until they are not fully melted, but much softer than when they started. Ensure that these do not burn at all – so reduce the intervals to ten seconds at a time if required.


Step 2
Mix the yoghurt, vanilla extract and cocoa powder together in a bowl and then heat this in the microwave for sixty seconds. When removed from the microwave, mix in the melted chocolate chips with this. Whip the egg whites and sugar together until they become white and hold firm in a stiff texture (practically like making meringue).


Step 3
You will then need to add this egg and sugar mixture to the chocolate and yoghurt mixture. Do this one table spoon at a time – adding the egg and sugar mixture slowly and folding it into the chocolate and yoghurt mixture. If the chocolate and yoghurt is still too hot, do not complete this step yet as the eggs will start to cook (which must be avoided).


Step 4
When fully folded together, cover the bowl with cling film and leave to chill in the fridge for at least thirty minutes. Serve and enjoy!
