The Les Mills Core class is an intense thirty-minute minute core-training workout designed to tighten and tone your midsection in the shortest amount of time possible. The class utilises your body weight, free weights and resistance tubing to challenge your balance, co-ordination and to improve your functional strength. The class is based on cutting-edge scientific research. It is all about building core strength, improving the functional fitness of the abdominals, mid-section and glutes – as well as working the cross-slings, which run from the upper to lower body. Basically, Les Mills Core targets everything from the mid-thigh up to the shoulders (which is an area also known as your trunk). In this class you burn up to 200 calories and more – the same calorie burn that our Aqua Fitness class offers.

The class program is designed for all fitness levels as every exercise has different levels to suit any participant to get the most benefits from this class. Our mid-section is our powerhouse – so you need to have a strong core and glutes to be able to perform day to day activities as well as training. A quick and efficient class, Les Mills Core is ideal if you only have thirty minutes to spare to make it into the gym. The class mixes choreographed routines with energetic and chart-topping music that will bring you back for more. It will help you run faster, play harder and stand stronger.
Ground-breaking scientific research means that the Les Mills Core class class features the most efficient exercises for maximum effectiveness. Thirty minutes is all you need!
1- Your instructor explains which muscle groups make up the core and why training them is so important, then takes you through a warm-up designed to gradually activate those muscles before the real work begins.
2- Your workout consists of exercises that both isolate (like crunches and leg extensions) and integrate (like standing balance and hovers) the various muscle groups. It challenges you and you really feel the benefits.
3- Before you know it, your half hour is up and the class is ending. Your body knows it has been tested, but as you regroup, you’re mentally scheduling your next class.
The class is a results driven program with quick gains that make you stronger and leaner. You can continually challenge yourself – regardless of your own fitness level.

How fit do I need to be to start doing this class?
Les Mills Core is for all ages, abilities and fitness levels. The moves are simple and the low-impact options mean you choose the intensity. You will soon experience the benefits of increased cardio and functional fitness.
I’m pregnant. Can I still do this class?
Safety is our number one priority, so we recommend talking with your doctor or midwife who will advise you appropriately as they have the best knowledge of your medical history. Chat to your instructor beforehand to let them know you’re pregnant and they’ll suggest options for you throughout the class if it is suitable for you to attend.
How many times a week should I do the class?
For the most optimum results, we recommend you complete the class two to three times per week.
What do I need to bring with me?
There’s no need to bring a thing as Westpark Fitness will provide the necessary equipment. All you need is comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, a drink bottle and a sweat towel.
