What is it?
A pre-choreographed class scientifically designed to give you results with fantastic music which is highly motivating and with the Westpark Fitness’ Les Mills BODYPUMP team you can’t go wrong. They will bring you on a journey from which you’ll never look back. Everyone is in the class for one reason and one reason only and that is to get into the best shape of their lives and BODYPUMP is the class that will do this.
All your major muscles are worked using Compound and Isolation based exercises including Squats, Presses and Deadlifts. The focus is to strengthen, tone & shape your entire body by using light weights at high repetitions, this is the REP EFFECT. This is the secret to developing lean athletic muscle. BODYPUMP is a fantastic way to build up bone density which is really important especially as we get older. Resistance training with weights is a great calorie burner and excellent way to build muscle.
“Bodypump is a fantastic way to build up bone density”
As muscles repair from the workouts your body’s metabolism is increased. This means that calories are burned by BodyPump at an increased rate long after you finish the Bodypump class. Average calorie burn in a 55 min class is 540.
Who is it for?
A beginner can do what we call the “Smart Start” this means in your first class you can do the first four tracks (warm up / Squats/Chest & Back all the big major muscles of the body) and if you feel that’s enough for you, you leave and the next time you come back you add on just 1 more track until you’re doing the full 45 min or 60 min class.
You can start on a light weight but it’s all about progression and as you get used to it you can challenge yourself on a heavier weight. At Westpark we also have 30 min classes which is a great way to get you started!

All you need to know about Les Mills Bodypump
What do I need for a Bodypump class?
All you need is comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, a drink bottle and a sweat towel. During the class, you’ll use a weight bar and weight plates and a step. These will be supplied in the class.
How strong do I need to be?
BODYPUMP instructors provide options to suit everyone. It’s a good idea to start with really light weights or even just a bar. Start slowly with just one to two classes a week and build up from four or five tracks to a full class. You’ll find your fitness and strength improve over a number of sessions.
How often should I do a BODYPUMP class?
BODYPUMP will really challenge all of your major muscle groups so we recommend you do no more than two to three classes a week and make sure you have a day off in between. Add two to three cardio classes into the mix and you’ll shape and tone your body in no time.
